Corner of Glebeholme & Monarch Park: The Bike Accident Part II, test image, 2009
On Friday, one of my professors from Ryerson passed away. We were never very close, like he was with some other students, but I was lucky enough to have a few work-in-progress critiques with him for my book version of Places My Father Remembers/Places My Mother Remembers and he was critical but encouraging. He especially liked this test image I’d shown him because it was folded and ripped and taped up repeatedly from my lack of organization. The fact that it was ripped had nothing to do with my concept but he liked that, and went off on a meandering tangent about windows that I couldn’t really follow. But that’s kind of what happens when you’re talking with people who are way, way smarter than you. And that’s what made him pretty great.
RIP Wieslaw Michalak
